Living nomadically on Australia’s eastern coast, Confluence is an extended sonic discussion of bluhol’s lifestyle. The EP, bluhol’s debut release, is defined as ‘a coming or flowing together, meeting, or gathering’ at one point. All too fitting as the debut release by label Oomycota, a brand new multidisciplinary project by Eora-based artists amuwa and Tangela, which establishes itself as an encapsulation of Australia’s often genre-redefining sounds.

In a playful manner, the bleeps and hisses of the tracks ‘Glider’ and ‘Cenote’ conjure images of the dense bush where bluhol frequently performs. ‘Subsidence’ and 'Light And Shade’ complement this lively bounce whilst keeping pace within this trippy ecosystem bluhol creates.

Our premiere pick, ‘Confluence’, the EP’s namesake, holds our hand as we step ankle-deep into this world, seemingly made entirely for us. Swirling rhythms, snaps, and crashes become a method of echolocation in this spacious release.

Oozing and pulsing, Oomyycota’s first release is bound to sit itself comfortably among the depths of Australia’s ever-evolving soundscape.
