Dialog is less music you listen to and more a world you step into. Born from the creative exchange between Samuel van Dijk and Rasmus Hedlund, the project cultivates intricate dub explorations with a clear and intentional message. Operating through their own DOT and Dialog Sound labels, the duo channels a deep-rooted fascination with sound system culture and Rastafarian language through meticulous sonic craft. Now, they arrive on French label klape nunsen with Riddim.
With a shared obsession for crafting dub-driven textures with a deep meaning, Dialog merges spiritual depth with technical mastery. Their sound is a blend of cultures: Jamaican roots, Berlin’s early dub-techno era, and a distinctly Nordic sensibility. The result is a bath of subs, textures, and vocal layers that’s hard to pin down within a specific era or scene, yet fundamental to what ‘dub’ represents today within electronic music.
klape nunsen, a French label and community rooted in the outer edges of sound, provides the perfect home for their exploration of the deep. Known for its stripped-back yet refined output, the platform continues to blur the line between club functionality and experimental listening – all with a gentle touch at its core. It’s music designed to tingle both brain and body in a comfortable way.
Taken from a live show the duo presented a few summers ago, Riddim captures Dialog in an evolving state. The EP openkls with a slow-burning, live-infused version of the title track, followed by a remix by Canadian bass sage Deadbeat. On the flip, reinterpretations by Javier Salazar and Noah Sfar swiftly expand into a more dancefloor-oriented mode, each maintaining the record’s signature dubby, spacious atmosphere.
Minimal Collective premieres Riddim – a warm hue of sound for sun-drenched dancefloor sessions or blissed-out sub hangouts. The only question left is: “Are we stepping into the riddim? Ya dig!”
