The rising Rome-based producer Hoedus delves into the shadowy depths of techno on the vinyl-only imprint Monday Off. The Monoceros EP includes four spiralling tracks on which the co-founder of Anekoic Records presents body-centric rhythms that unfurl amidst psychedelic drones.
Drawing inspiration from nature and the capital of Italy, Hoedus’ mastery of digital and analogue machines creates the meditative and ethereal basis found throughout the EP. By exploring various musical genres, he discovered his artistic roots in ambient and techno, two genres that profoundly shaped his future productions and paved the way for him to release music on esteemed labels like Non Series, Semantica, and Mental Modern. Fitting neatly within Monday Off’s brand of deep and dark techno releases, Hoedus infuses techno with ambient textures and spiralling drones, bringing a vigorous approach to the genre.
Rolling in like a summer thunderstorm, our premiere pick ‘Frames’ finds the listener voyaging along a dark and unrelenting journey. From the initial propulsion of the dense percussion until the final whisper of the swirling synthesiser work, the intensity of the track builds up mesmerising pressure.
