There’s weight in Selcouth’s first step. The Sammann EP brings together Medlock and Philip Kylberg in a powerful collaborative project built from shades of grey and post-industrial grit.

Rooted in the rough edges of the UK’s industrial corners, DJ and producer Medlock shapes his sound from the echoes of old mills and factory floors. Growing up in Oldham, surrounded by jungle and hardcore tape packs, he developed a raw and direct sense of rhythm. Over the years, Medlock has carved out his space, guided by Manchester’s White Hotel and connecting closely with the Dutch scene, from his release on Delft’s Mirror Zone label as part of the Cycle Bender series to a standout back-to-back with 5RVZ on Den Haag’s Future Intel.

That same sensitivity to patina and grit runs through the work of Italian producer and designer Philip Kylberg, who builds his world in greyscales. Working between Turin, Venice, and Milan, he merges sound and visual design through his platform Neural Hypnosis and the collectives Opificio and Endless Interferenza. With a background in abstract graphic design, he sharpens the mechanical precision of his sound, adding another layer to an already detailed and intricate body of sound work.

Together, they turn shared practice into momentum, shaping a vision of dance music as both ritual and exploration with Sammann, the debut release on Selcouth.

The collective’s spotlight falls on the opening track Skygge, a piece that leans into the darker ends of tekno, techno, and trance. From the first note, it sets the tone for a powerful release. The track recalls close-knit gatherings in concrete urban spaces, offering that sense of escape that electronic music has long offered in response to everyday struggle. In this context, Skygge stands as a portal, a gateway track built from sonic cement. Raw and grounded, it marks the start of something solid.
