After premiering ISOTOOP’s previous release Jinx, we return to the label with Interlocking. ISOTOOP began from the belief that where music is heard matters as much as the music itself, connecting sound to its setting and the people within it. What started as a series of listening events evolved into a label, carrying that collective approach into its releases and the circle of people behind them.

As a core member of the ISOTOOP circle, Shoal previously appeared twice on the label with VOAL, his collaborative project with label chief Vand. A connection that is rooted in a deep creative friendship and shared experimentation. This time, that collaboration takes a different form, with Shoal arriving on ISOTOOP on his own for the first time. The release pushes Shoal’s sound further into its own territory, becoming more specific in structure without becoming more isolated. Familiar elements within Shoal’s sound meet new forms, while Linell’s reinterpretation reveals an influence already present throughout the release as a whole. Shoal builds his tracks around solid rhythms, leaving space for droning elements to drift around them.

Where the first track holds tension, the second carries it through and steadily develops it into intensity. Minimal Collective premieres the release’s third and namesake track, Interlocking, stripping it down to a grounded rhythm that pulls the weight of the release into focus.
