Turmalin Dub marks the next chapter for Munich label Terra Magica Rec., bringing together co-founder Tom of Terram and long-in-the-game producer Listensport. Progressive in spirit and broad in scope, the record drifts between dub, acid, house and trance, all coloured by a Balearic warmth that will speak to anyone drawn to uplifting rollers.
Listensport has been active in Munich’s electronic scene since the early nineties, starting out in hip hop before delving into jungle and drum and bass, with dubstep and UK breakbeat becoming his home turf. His productions channel that background through sharp breakbeat instincts, minimalist trance influences, and distinctly trippy atmospheres. After a creative hiatus, he returns re-energised, joining forces with Tom of Terram, the alias of Tom Sprenger, one half of Hektisch Sprengen, and co-founder of Terra Magica Rec.
Since launching in 2021, Terra Magica Rec. has grown into a home for adventurous sounds. Founded by Sprenger together with Mirko Hecktor, the label moves confidently across styles while staying grounded in a love for dub, psychedelic electronics, and the kind of warm, transportive moods that work just as well on a beach as in a dimly lit club.
Turmalin Dub extends that vision, tracing the label’s path through the space it defines as ‘between the organic and the synthetic’. At times dub-inflected, at times leaning into trancehall, a hybrid of trance and dancehall, the record keeps shifting its weight without losing focus. A highlight comes with RAMZi’s Dreamspell remix of the title track, folding her aquatic psychedelia into a '90s-inspired strain of French house.
Our premiere track Spirit, closes the EP with a midtempo burn. Blissful and cheeky, it sways around vocal fragments, with ‘it’s fundamental to the spirit’ saying it all. Sublime dance music that hits before the mind has time to catch up.
