Steeped in haunting ambience, Winterhimmel drifts through grey winter skies, tracing an evocative path between dub techno’s deep currents and IDM’s dissolving outlines. With this upcoming release, Spanish audiovisual artist unpropped conjures lurching basslines that plot an uncertain path through a dense shroud of fog.
unpropped is the alias of Spanish audiovisual artist Germán Sánchez. With a background shaped by time spent in Brazil, India, and Morocco, and formal training at an electronic music school in Strasbourg, France, unpropped approaches sound as a form of painting, using listeners’ minds as a canvas for abstract productions. Now based in Germany, they work with a sparse setup of modular inputs and synthesisers that is truly greater than the sum of its parts.
Drawing inspiration from acts like 404.zero, unpropped’s productions purvey a singular voice within a crowded dancefloor caucus. A sound that channels experimental and club-ready influences into an accessible yet sophisticated palette. An approach that deliberately prioritises experiment over isomorphism within electronic music, which comes together throughout their upcoming release, Winterhimmel.
Minimal Collective’s premiere, Dentado, takes its name from the Spanish word for ‘toothed’ or ‘jagged,’ and channels a prickly sensibility throughout its sound. A growing tension runs through the track, carried by stammering kick drums and sparsely decorated by shrill electronics.
