In the dusky basements of Utrecht, Voal took shape – a meeting point between off-kilter minimalism and psych-induced percussion. The duo of Vand and Shoal present Jinx, a five-track EP that follows their debut on ISOTOOP, expanding their sound into crystalline structures and focused club dynamics.
Voal is the collaborative project of Vand and Shoal, who met through mutual friend Van Anh, founder of the ISOTOOP collective. What began as a shared outlook on life soon grew into a deep creative partnership, forged through years of living and producing together under one roof in Utrecht. Those long nights and countless sessions now define the backbone of the ISOTOOP catalogue.
While Saffron introduced Voal’s exploratory side – organic textures, off-kilter rhythms, and an almost narrative sense of momentum – Jinx hones that vision into a more assertive club statement. Each track feels like a fragment of a continuous live set: evolving, crossfading, and leaving behind a spectral trace that links one piece to the next.
Across its five cuts, Voal navigates air currents and atmospheres that move between tactile groove and vaporous drift. Minimal Collective premieres Jinx, the record’s namesake: a track that captures the duo’s alchemy between precision and intuition. Built for exploratory dancefloors, it distills five years of shared experimentation into an understated groove.
A tip from the collective: make sure to check out the vinyl-exclusive closing track Ouah, which feels like a psychedelic revamp of the 2000s Romanian minimal zeitgeist.
