London-based label Osmura presents Patterns in Balance, a seven-track VA compilation where artists draw from different palettes while collectively seeking balance in sound. The release moves through leftfield electronics, navigating between movement and a fixed centre.
What initially started with a series of mixes and events organically grew into the shape of a label with a collective character. Patterns in Balance marks the 6th release and third compilation in Osmura’s dub and deep techno-orientated catalogue, this time leaning towards a more leftfield, percussive sound, with quieter moments throughout. Each contribution approaches the VA’s title from its own perspective. From the quiet atmosphere of Nexciya’s Settle Down to the controlled breakbeat urgency of Beaabea’s In the Audio, the subjective interpretations of balance are what bind the sequence together. Patterns in Balance realises this premise within the individual tracks as well as in the synergy between them.
Closing the compilation is Rennes-based duo Cwtch, consisting of Fallen Tape and Pal Parallax. This week’s pick, Ash Rebirth, brings together deep bass and complex percussion in a dense yet fluid climax.
