Rotterdam based producer and live act, Nikos, lands on Flippen Bits with a mind-bending exploration of polyrhythms and hypnotic sounds. The ‘Metaturnal’ EP marks the second release for the imprint, building on the airy textures, broken rhythms and darker tones it is quickly becoming known for.
A skilful artist through many facets, Nikos presents audio-visual work as UMBRA and ambient listening events curated under Pelagic. Following a number of appearances on VA’s this debut outing skilfully encapsulates his ever evolving live sound. Drawing on elements of techno, dub, bass music and, psytrance, the EP pushes a modern blend of harsh and soft sound design motifs in unison as it shifts in speed and mood, finding a home on the new offshoot of Flippen Disks.
As the latest project of fellow Dutchman, Monty DJ, Flippen Bits is a sub label that sets out to present functional, bass heavy tracks for the more playful DJ's and late nights. Nikos’ EP is a fine fit to its sound with a mind-bending aura across the four tracks, presenting breathy textures and tight percussion.
Minimal Collective presents, ‘Nothing To Undo’, a six minute ride that underpins the rhythmically diverse nature of the entire EP. Masterfully implemented polyrhythms dotted between droning pads and otherworldly swooshes result in a tense, club ready stepper.
