The second form of New Forms of Silence finds Brussels producer OTON pushing his hardware sound into denser territory. Released via his Alliance imprint, the album arrives hand in hand with a new A/V show created with visual artist Onohno, unfolding the project as a full sensory experience.
Brussels-based producer OTON and his label Alliance continue to refine their vision with New Forms of Silence 2. Following releases like Aurora, the first New Forms of Silence, and a split-album by Abo Abo and TOMO, OTON now delivers the next step in his ongoing exploration of deep, hardware-driven sounds. This new offering sinks into weightier dub atmospheres, yet is still tied together by his precise approach to sound design.
This year also saw the launch of OTON’s New Forms of Silence A/V Show, developed in tandem with Onohno, a visual artist and founder of the Akalara podcast series. With New Forms of Silence 2, the project comes fully into focus: restored synths, FX racks, and drum machines drive dense layers of sound, while Onohno’s visuals translate those pulses into shifting colours and flickering patterns that follow the music’s changing form. The result is a performance that pushes both audio and visual elements to their expressive limits, set to premiere at Musica festival in Strasbourg later this year.
For this premiere, Minimal Collective highlights 101MAS3. The track reveals OTON’s introspective side: a slower dub cut with a hazy, fuzzed-out character sharpened by precise details. Its intensity oscillates with patience, creating a subtle push and pull. In contrast to the previously premiered TEKBSS, it highlights OTON’s ability to shift between raw propulsion and careful restraint within the New Forms of Silence cycle.
