The transcendental finale in a three-part experimental sound compilation, Melifera Records’ ‘Whispers of the Valley Part. 3’ closes a meaningful chapter reflecting the label’s manifold identity. The VA’s seven tracks pay tribute to the beauty of fusing artistry and environmental appreciation into music.
Born in the hills of the Drôme Provençale in southern France, Melifera Records is more than just a label. From the creative curation of their magazine to intimate events and festivals across the country, the organisation has developed a strong ethos for evoking the depth, emotion, and meaning in the inherent symbiosis of visual arts and music. Their focus on dub techno, ambient, minimal, and at times more robust techno styles rests on a larger mission to represent the contemporary electronic scene as a myriad of interconnected singularities.
Whispers of the Valley came to life with a field recording sample bank gathered at the label’s 2022 festival La Vallée Électrique. The label invited emerging and established artists to compose a unique track using at least one sample from the gathering. The three-piece VA series is a pure reflection of the label’s ethic and comes to an end with a sonic feeling of peace and connection with nature.
In this round’s premiere pick, Paul Rêve’s ‘Reunited Foreign Pieces’ sets the scene. Here, bright and airy sounds are stripped to their core, warped, and layered to create a textured otherworldly ‘soundatmosphere’ befitting the track’s name. Storyteller, sound designer, and creative director of La Vallée Électrique, Rêve remains true to Melifera’s theme of narration and deepness in creative work.
