With Sensory Processing Sensitivity, Barcelona-based producer Bassywax balances club-functional rhythm with moments of restraint, psychedelia, and off-centre emotion. Soon to be released on Archypness’ E MA HO! Records.
Bassywax is the project of Asier Arias, a Donostia-born, Barcelona-based DJ and producer who spends most of his time in the studio shaping detail-heavy, bass-centric music. He’s also the mind behind the Obtuse Swamp and Slippery Yard labels, each built around a distinct take on psychedelic sound design.
His newest six-tracker, Sensory Processing Sensitivity, finds a fitting home on E MA HO! Records, curated by Ukrainian musician, producer, and sound designer Archypness, currently operating out of Warsaw. The label draws from Tibetan tantric frameworks and aims to translate them into experimental club language.
Among six tracks that all lean into a warped, psychedelic tone, the spotlight falls on Ttattaki. A bouncy bassline gives the track its footing while sci-fi, almost aquatic detailing leads the way. What makes it stick is the propelling contrast—light in motion, but solid underneath.
