On its third vinyl outing, Woozy welcomes Carré with Meltdown, a weighty three-tracker that reimagines dubstep’s raw core through warped, club-ready mechanics. The half-steppers get extended lives in two standout remixes: one from dBridge, and another from Geneva’s NVST.
Carré has quickly positioned herself at the forefront of the transatlantic bass underground. After co-founding the Fast At Work label and party in Los Angeles, she’s now based in London, closer to the UK-rooted sound she’s helped reinterpret in recent years. Her EPs on Tempa and SP:EC reveal a producer fluent in tension and restraint, always dialled into the low-end with purpose and emotional weight.
On Meltdown, Carré channels her low-end focus into three distinct but interwoven half-steppers. The title track introduces the cycle with a cascading melodic hook that gives way to a slowed, weighty drive. Crawler stretches the format further, pivoting between twitchy, swung momentum and a plummeting bass stomp that grounds the function. Season Seven feels more untethered, its woozy bounce and dubbed-out vocals swimming in radiant haze. Together, the three tracks form a shape-shifting take on bass music — right at home on Woozy, the Dublin-based label and party series run by EMA, dedicated to dub-heavy club and soundsystem culture.
NVST’s OLDSCHOOL VERSION of Season Seven pushes the record into rougher terrain. What begins as a drum workout with psychedelic churn gradually loosens, letting space and light seep through the cracks. The record ends as it evolves, weight gives way to release, and the mutation comes full circle.
