Dubstep with a punk pulse. Straight from Leipzig’s DIY scene, Old Man Crane drops four heavyweight cuts on Bait with the Hepp EP. Each track lands as a murky staple, tailor-made to shake up sound stacks.
Coming from Leipzig’s punk scene, Old Man Crane had that moment many of us know, standing in front of a sound system, feeling the low-end shake your chest, and realising there’s no turning back. Deep, dark dubstep pulled her straight into bass music, where she quickly started DJing and producing her own tracks. Her process lives between hardware and software, embracing happy accidents to craft modulated, off-kilter sound. Outside the studio, she’s active in Leipzig’s DIY scene, regularly organising grassroots events and co-hosting Ventral Vibrations, a monthly deep bass show on Callshop Radio with Tico.
The Hepp EP marks release number 16 on Bait, Beatrice M.’s platform for sounds sitting between techno and bass. The collaboration sparked from a simple DM and quickly evolved into a solid connection, sealed by an impromptu back-to-back at Bassmaessage last year. The energy of that link now cuts through this release.
Premiering today via Minimal Collective, Quork moves like a well-oiled dub machine built for motion. Its somatic bassline grinds forward with a metallic shuffle, carrying the rough-edged precision of punk mechanics. Like gears locking in tight sequence, the track drives bodies wherever the stacks are set up. Deep and endlessly replayable.
