On Yield, Melbourne producer r hunter traces the fault lines between structure and collapse. Across eleven tracks, the album drifts between computer music, deconstructed club, and raw field recordings, music caught in the act of reprogramming its own syntax. Soon to be released on Absorb.

r hunter is the production project of Melbourne-based artist Asher Elazary. His practice merges computer music, deconstructed club, drone, and ambient, often shaped by improvisation and collaborative exchange. The result is a sound world that feels intentionally unstable, carefully calculated to explore the point where systems begin to break down.

Having released on labels such as Genot Centre, AR53, Jpeg Artefacts, and Nice Music, Elazary continues his exploration with Yield, out via Melbourne imprint Absorb. Founded in 2020 and based on Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung Country, Absorb has become a vital platform for Australia’s experimental and electroacoustic scenes. Their annual 37-hour event, ABSORBED, stretches these ideas into a collective endurance experiment, one that r hunter has also been part of.

For Yield, Elazary treated composition as a process experiment. Working in SuperCollider, a platform for algorithmic composition, he built a personal syntax to express ideas beyond standard software - aware that any system will eventually fail to contain what it tries to define. “I wanted to make the most formalist, process-driven music possible,” he explains, “with the expectation that somewhere in the process, the plan would fall apart in the best way.” The result mixes custom audio synthesis with iPhone field recordings, balancing the precision of computer music with the friction of real-world noise. It draws on musique concrète, a mid-20th-century movement that used recorded everyday sounds as musical material. An approach that grounds digital composition in the physical and imperfect textures of life.

Minimal Collective premieres On The Reef, one of the album’s most elusive moments. Metallic percussion flickers through softer pads, while fragments of drone and field recording widen the frame towards the end. The track feels like a structure thinking itself through - until it begins to dissolve, revealing something unexpected in its own collapse.
