Osaka-based audiovisual artist TORIMIMASATAKA showcases his sharp ear for spatial music production on Acceptance Residue. Across three long-form pieces released on his label nuoac, he threads together noise, drones, and labyrinthine rhythms into sound environments that stretch far beyond the stereo field.
Osaka-based sound and audiovisual artist TORIMIMASATAKA is known for combining sound and image into works that demand close listening. His pieces evolve slowly, layering detail until the listener is fully absorbed. This patient approach has defined and refined his practice across dub currents, industrial edges, and noise-driven shades of ambient.
In parallel, he founded the label nuoac as a platform for experimental electronics and audiovisual projects. The imprint is dedicated to expanding the listening experience through visual and spatial dimensions. Acceptance Residue marks the label’s second outing, following the VOQUOXY album as its first release. Together with earlier works, such as Void on Sydney’s alkaanet, these records highlight Masakata’s sharp ear for pressure, texture, and electroacoustic detail. With Acceptance Residue, he pushes further, opening space for noise, glitch, distorted strings, and even orchestral chants to sit alongside deeper low-end.
The premiere track, Grasped, captures Masakata’s non-linear approach in motion. At just over eighteen minutes, it unfolds in three vividly spatial movements. The opening draws the listener in with flickering tones and echoes that bounce across invisible walls. A heavier middle section introduces low-end, sharp clicks and stumbling percussion, building momentum without settling into a fixed rhythm. The final chapter dissolves into cold drones and wind-like tones, leaving an impression of openness, as if the piece has expanded the very room it’s played in.
