Before The Shift marks a new milestone for Berlin-based Hyphen Records, spotlighting the label’s co-founder, vauna, featuring Florence’s TOMO and Milan’s Peppe Amore. The record pushes into driving techno, laced with trippy edges and unexpected turns that carry the combined spark of the three behind it.
Launched in 2023, Berlin’s Hyphen is still new on the map, but already carving out a techno-centric sound with a leftfield tilt. Through events, a mix series, and a steadily growing discography, the label has set its sights on fostering experimentation both on and off the dancefloor.
vauna is a Berlin producer, DJ, and co-founder of Hyphen, alongside members lorel, HALBTROCKEN, and BGA. As an artist, he focuses on the introspective yet physical side of electronic music, harmonising trance influences with modern-day techno. The fifth release also brings in TOMO, co-founder of Florence’s DE RIO, who channels his cerebral, experimental touch into a standout remix. Milan’s Peppe Amore, a producer and audio engineer, brings his own punch with a stomping rework that rounds off the release. Together, the originals and remixes form a dialogue, each stretching the material into new sonic ground.
With the full release exploring what a mental take on contemporary techno can sound like, Minimal Collective premieres TOMO’s remix of Shouting At The Ground. A fine blend of peak-hour propulsion and tripped-out depth.
